At MKE FreshAir Collective, our work is rooted in the principle of Community-Centric Relief — the belief that those most impacted by systemic injustice should not be expected to bear the responsibility of fixing it. Every one of our projects is designed to reduce the burden on communities by delivering solutions that are sustainable, low-lift, and do not rely on significant changes from residents themselves. We tailor each intervention to reflect the specific history, culture, and conditions of the neighborhoods we serve, always ensuring our presence is helpful, not disruptive. And while we aim to empower, we do so without imposing — offering resources, tools, and support that allow communities to act on their own terms, not ours. This approach ensures that the responsibility for structural change remains where it belongs: with institutions, systems, and those who hold the power to create lasting equity.
